What drew us to this street nearly twenty years ago was the tree-lined peace and quiet within walking distance of restaurants and entertainment. We’ve had some of the best neighbors one could ask for. We first lived next door, and when we outgrew the house, we opted to move one number down so that we could remain on the best block in the neighborhood.
Our 1927 cottage’s history includes an owner who worked at the local granite quarry. The driveway was laid one stone at a time by that owner, as we were fortunate to learn from his daughter when she stopped by the house. The front yard includes plants that were gifts from neighbors up and down the block.
We love the open floor plan and the unique space it creates. It is a quiet haven in which we relax, cook, and entertain. The hardwood flooring throughout unifies the interior, tying the original rooms of the house to the new dining room and spacious kitchen. The open and clean lines of the kitchen, with reclaimed heart pine shelving and metal ceiling, make it a joy to cook in an uncluttered setting. It’s especially satisfying to walk to the weekly farmers’ market, buy fresh foods, and cook them in our kitchen.
When we’re not enjoying the inside of our house, we spend our time bird watching on the tree-shaded front porch or relaxing in our “shed” in the back yard. Our garden and chickens have provided many an herb and egg, and additionally, our hens have thoroughly entertained us.
The village is very close, so we regularly walk to The Midway, Holy Taco, and Argosy, which all have great patios and delicious food. We drink coffee at Joe’s and get our pizza from Grant Central East, and we couldn’t be happier with them. Village Fitness is only a moment’s walk farther, and all of our pets have been well served and cared for by the East Atlanta Animal Clinic and Park Pet Supply. Best of all, we don’t have to drive to get there.
